How it works
- Fill in the name and the month, or leave them blank to write in by hand.
- Twenty-six lines fits a month of small spending. Add rows if the month is busier than that.
- The box underneath is for what the saving is for, which is the part that makes the rest of it make sense.
- Download and print. Two sheets stapled lasts a couple of months.
Frequently asked questions
- Does the “Left” column add up by itself?
- No — the child does the arithmetic, which is the point. A sheet that did the sums would be a spreadsheet, and a spreadsheet teaches nothing about where the money went.
- Is this the Japanese お小遣い帳?
- Yes, the same idea and the same columns. The Japanese page of this tool starts with the headings a 小遣い帳 usually has.
- Can an adult use it as a spending diary?
- Nothing stops you. Widen the “What for” column, ask for sixty rows, and it becomes a cash book.
- Is anything uploaded?
- No. The PDF is drawn in your browser, so whatever you type stays on your computer.
- Is it free?
- Yes. The free plan adds a small line at the foot of the sheet; Pro leaves it off.
