Frequently asked questions
- Does every puzzle have exactly one answer?
- Yes, and it is checked rather than assumed. A square is only left empty if the puzzle still has a single answer, tested by a solver that stops as soon as it finds a second. A sudoku with two answers cannot be solved by reasoning.
- What does “difficulty” mean here?
- How many squares are given at the start: on a 9 × 9 board about 40 (easy), 32, 27 and 24 (expert); on a 6 × 6 about 22, 18, 14 and 12; on a 4 × 4 about 10, 8, 6 and 5. It is the usual rough measure, not a promise about which techniques a puzzle needs.
- Are the puzzles different every time?
- Yes. Each grid is filled by trying the digits in a random order — the browser’s cryptographic random numbers, the same as the other draws here — so no two runs give the same set.
- Are there sudokus for children?
- Yes: choose the 4 × 4 board (numbers 1 to 4, boxes of 2 × 2) or the 6 × 6 (numbers 1 to 6, boxes of two rows by three), six to a page. Each still has exactly one answer.
- Is it free?
- Yes. The free plan adds a small line at the foot of the last sheet; Pro leaves it off.
