- Set the notice period from the contract. Three months before the minimum term ends is a common one.
- Leave the “or at the earliest date possible” line on.

Frequently asked questions
- Why put the customer number so prominently?
- Because it is what the letter is filed by. A cancellation that arrives without one has to be matched to an account by hand, and that is where letters get lost. It goes in the sentence itself, not in small print at the bottom.
- What is the “earliest date possible” line for?
- Insurance against your own arithmetic. If you name a date and the contract's notice period turns out to be longer, a letter that says only that date can be treated as invalid rather than as early. Adding “or at the earliest date possible” means the notice still counts and simply takes effect later.
- Can I not just cancel in the app?
- Sometimes, and if you can, do — it is faster. This is for the providers who still require it in writing, for the ones whose app quietly offers only a downgrade, and for when you want something dated you can point at later.
- Does this stop me being charged?
- It is the notice; the billing follows from it. Keep the copy and the proof of posting, and check the next two bills. If they keep charging, the dated letter is what you have.
- Is it free?
