This tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and you can even turn off your internet connection before you start.
How it works
- Drop a PDF onto the box, or choose it from your device.
- Choose how many pages go on each sheet and the sheet size. Whether the sheet is portrait or landscape is chosen for you, whichever shows the pages largest.
- Choose the order — left to right, right to left for a book read from the right, or down each column — and whether to outline each page.
- Select Lay out pages and download the new PDF, then print it at 100%.
Frequently asked questions
- Does the text get blurry?
- No. Each page is placed on the sheet as the original drawing, not as a picture of it, so text and lines stay vector and print as sharply as before; they are only smaller. Scanned pages are pictures to begin with and stay as sharp as the scan.
- Why not just use "pages per sheet" in the print dialog?
- That works when you print yourself. A PDF with the pages already laid out can be sent to someone else, printed at a copy shop or a convenience store, or read on a tablet as handouts, and it looks the same everywhere.
- How are pages of different sizes or orientations handled?
- Every page is scaled to fit its cell without being stretched, and turned the way a viewer shows it, so a landscape page stays landscape. Mixed sizes leave some cells with a wider margin than others.
- What is the right-to-left order for?
- For Japanese books and documents written vertically, which are read from the right. The first page then goes in the top right cell, so two pages side by side read in the right order.
- Is the PDF uploaded, and what are the free limits?
- It is not uploaded: the new PDF is made in this page. The free plan takes one PDF of up to 20 MB per run, 10 runs a day, and adds a small "Made with nouplo.com" line to the last page. Pro removes the line and the limits.
