Add margins to a PDF

How it works

1. Drop a PDF onto the box.
2. Type the margin to add on each side in millimetres: a wider left margin for a binding, holes or a clip.
3. Keep the paper size to print on the same sheets, with each page drawn a little smaller; or let the page grow, which keeps it exactly as it was.
4. For double-sided printing, tick the option that swaps left and right on even pages, so the binding margin is always on the inside. Then select Add margins.

Frequently asked questions

Keep the paper size, or make the page bigger?

Keep the paper size when you print: an A4 page stays A4, drawn slightly smaller inside the new margins, and its text stays sharp. Make the page bigger when nothing may be scaled — then every page grows by the margins and keeps its links and form fields; a printer set to "fit to page" will shrink it back onto the paper.

What is the double-sided option for?

On a sheet printed on both sides, the binding edge is on the left of the front and on the right of the back. With the option on, the left margin you typed goes to the right on pages 2, 4, 6…, so the space is always on the bound side.

Does it keep the text selectable?

Yes, both ways: the pages are placed as they are, not turned into pictures. With the paper size kept, links and form fields are not carried over; with the page made bigger, they are.

Is the PDF uploaded, and what are the free limits?

It is not uploaded: the new PDF is made in this page. The free plan takes one PDF of up to 20 MB per run, 10 runs a day, and adds a small "Made with nouplo.com" line to the last page. Pro removes the line and the limits.
